Greetings,

After a long journey by ocean from S. Africa via Rotterdam and Jamaica the six Kingfisher tents for Sanctuary Belize, made it safely to Belize City by Mid September.

As the tents arrived a few day later than expected and the time needed to clear customs, we stayed with our good friends at the Roaring River Golf Course where anyone can expect a clean room overlooking the river and home cooked food. It took a little time for the tents to clear customs before being delivered to Sanctuary Belize, near Hopkins in the South of the country so we explored around the central part of the country using Roaring River as our base.

We have known John and Debby Usher since 2008 and John is the main brainchild behind Sanctuary Belize and its development. As before, we were received with kindness and gracious kind hospitality by them both.

Due to the incessant and continuous rainfall, only one of the decks was completed at the time we arrived and started with the setup. These guys had built some of the most sturdy decks that I have ever seen anywhere in the world. Due to this fact, we were only going to set up one tent and in the process we planned on training the workers to a point that they would have knowledge enough to set up the remaining 5 tents after our departure. We were most pleasantly surprised to find out that John had one of the smartest crews we have ever worked with and they just seemed to know exactly what was required of them and this made the setup quite a breeze for us even though we had a few delaying factors that held us up. Though I know John will sort them out before his first guests arrive to stay in the tents, the Sand Fleas and Mosquitoes sure did a number on us.

Situated right on the beach of Caribbean Sea, the six tents will be positioned in an absolutely stunning location with the sea in the front and the Sapodilla Lagoon to the side and back of the tents. The upper decking and vertical frame supports was done out with the stunning Sapodilla Wood (Manilkara zapota)which is very hard, beautiful and almost indestructible to insects and the elements if well cared for.
